NEW ORLEANS -The Bayou Classic announced today that both Grambling University Foundation, Inc. and the Southern University System Foundation, Inc., have entered a corporate partnership agreement with Boeing as a Gold Sponsor of the 49th Annual Bayou Classic. Governmental leaders, tourism leaders, Bayou Classic organizers and representative from both Grambling State University and Southern University will make and provide updates on this year’s 49th Annual Bayou Classic scheduled for November 25-26. These heavyweight pieces retain heat evenly making them ideal to braise, sear, pan fry, saute and bake. Whatever occasion, cooking with Bayou Classic cast iron adds a cozy farmhouse feel to the backyard, campsite, or modern kitchen. In 2021, the Roosevelt Rough Riders were victorious in defeating the Garfield Bulldogs, in one the most exciting games in recent history.
The rivalry between the two schools dates back to the 1930s when the two teams began playing each other yearly. Things got more intense when the series was named the Bayou Classic in 1974 and moved permanently to New Orleans. Over the years, both teams have produced an astounding number of players who went on to the NFL and other professional football leagues, some of whom are enshrined in the Pro Football Hall of Fame such as Willie Davis who played for the Green Bay Packers and Charlie Joiner of the San Diego Chargers. Students from the Central Creativity Robotics program will showcase the robots they built from reusable parts. This program fosters PreK-12 students' creativity via the development of educational robotics in a dynamic, innovative and immersive atmosphere.

Southern Jaguars Football Grambling State kicker Garrett Urban was 5-for-5 on field goals in the win over the Jags including the 25-yard game winner with seven seconds left to play. With the help of their coach, Dr. Sreekumari, the Grambling State team’s pitch won against two teams from Southern University, one team from Southern Law, and one team from Xavier University. Offenses have been able to find room versus Southern’s defense, and most of that space has come through the air.
Defensive coordinator Everett Todd said earlier this year, being opportunistic in the defensive backfield has begun the identity of his unit this year. Since head coach Broderick Fobbs has taken over at his alma mater, Grambling has put up 39.2 points per game on rival Southern, which is averaging 31.4 points over the last five seasons. For those without tickets, the Bayou Classic will be on TV in just about every bar and restaurant in New Orleans, with many having viewing parties with food and drink specials for the game.

Every Thanksgiving weekend, fans of both teams descend on the city, turning the French Quarter and downtown areas into seas of black and gold and blue and gold . In a lead up to the big game – the Bayou Clash – fans are treated to a parade and a Battle of the Bands. Then on Saturday after Thanksgiving, it all culminates at the Mercedes-Benz Superdome when the Tigers and the Jaguars go paw to paw.

The Crescent City All-Stars Band is composed of 175 student musicians from 13 New Orleans area high schools. Band directors from all over the city are involved in the organization and rehearsals. After the homecoming meeting with Prairie View, the Jaguars play at Alcorn State (Oct. 30) to set up the final three rivalry games, with an open date Nov. 20 mixed in.
Southern will end the 2021 fall season with consecutive games against its three biggest rivals — FAMU (Nov. 6), Jackson State (Nov. 13) at home, then Grambling in New Orleans. Bayou Classic fans may also purchase tickets for the ever-popular Battle of the Bands & Greek Show to be held on Friday, November 25, 2022, at the Caesars Superdome. The new agreement — which kicks off this year with the 49th annual Bayou Classic as Southern and Grambling State renew their storied football rivalry on Saturday, Nov. 26 on NBC and Peacock — extends a historic partnership which began in 1991. This will be AT&T’s second year as a sponsor of the annual Historically Black Colleges and Universities Classic.
The robots that will be on display at Fan Fest are those that have been built and recognized as part of the organization’s robotics build competitions. The annual Bayou Classic meeting with Grambling will make its return to New Orleans on Nov. 27, and rematches with McNeese State and Florida A&M are among five home games highlighting the Jaguars’ 2021 fall schedule, the school announced Monday. Florida A&M, which is joining the SWAC next season, was among the MEAC schools that opted out of the conference's spring season, forcing the conference to abandon league play for the spring. The G-Men’s rushing attack will need to have its best game this season to afford the team its best chance against Southern’s stifling rush defense. The Jags sport the best rush defense in the conference, holding offenses to 121 rushing yards and have only surrendered 14 scores on the ground. When it has matched up with other top run defenses in the league — Alcorn State, UAPB and Prairie View A&M — Grambling State has averaged 2.9 yards per rush and notched four rushing touchdowns.
